[VIRGINIANA] THE STORY OF BACON’S REBELLION
New York: The Neale Publishing Company, 1907.
Octavo. Hard Cover. First Edition. 181pp. Octavo in green buckram; titling in gilt to the upper board and the spine; [8] 9-181 pages; silverfishing to the boards; previous owner’s bookplate and pencil signature to the front end paper. ~~A fine choice for Virginia history lovers to read on a chill winter’s night. Krick says that “Mrs. Stanard tells the story of this 1676 incident well, though not thoroughly. Critics were quick to point out the unseemly romanticism of the work, and its unswerving devotion to Bacon and his supporters.” We confess to liking our history with a generous dose of “unseemly romanticism” (Krick 475).
Very Good binding.
