[RICHMOND] “BARGE BOOK” - LOCAL HISTORY BOOZE CRUISE
Richmond, VA: 1975.
This unique artifact is the companion to a 1975 history-oriented booze cruise on the James, created by and for a group calling themselves the International Society of Hunters, Bums, and Poker-Players. 14” x 8 1/2” self-bound book titled “Points of Interest Along the Historic James for the Antony & Cleopatra’s Barge Party #3 Spring Outing”. Ten pages of 40 points of interest relating to early American history lead into 46 pages of photocopied maps, charts, and other historical resources. A hand-drawn map of the trip is copied on the back cover.~~Although we have no idea who belonged to this creatively named social group, we know they were likely Virginia natives enthusiastic about their history, and that they were also a fun-loving group. Of interest is Point of Interest #7, Sandy Beach Island, where “R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.C. members learned to swim, an excellent location for skinny dipping.” ~~Moderate tears to covers, otherwise pretty good.
