[AMERICANA] SHRINER’S CONVENTION PHOTOGRAPH

Kansas City, Missouri: 1924.

This is a unique 8”x10” image by an unknown photographer of the Shriners International Golden Jubilee, in 1924. They lavishly decorating the streets of Kansas City with Egyptian-style columns, sphinxes, and obelisks throughout the downtown area.~~The Masonic philanthropy organization used an “Arabian” theme since founder William Florence attended an Arabian diplomat’s party. The full name of the Shriners was the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.). Their 1924 convention was the largest the city had ever seen, with 80,000 visitors. The display at Union Station is pictured here, called “The Garden of Allah”.~~Pencil inscription on reverse, “R.A. Thomas (+ illegible)” and in pen, “Penna Ave Was DC 192?”. Good.
