Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain opened the new offices of the Times of London on December 2, 1937. John J. Astor, the chairman of the publishing company, sought to improve the technology and equipment for the historic company, which had occupied the same quarters in the historic Printing House Square since the 1880s. The new building was much larger and built on St. Andrew’s Hill in Blackfriars, demolishing some old residential cottages to make room for the new premises. This volume gives a history of the original premises, a tour of the new, and a walkthrough of the construction of the famous newspaper.~~10” x 7 1/2” 17-pp softcover volume with 14 photographic plates showing the new equipment, including the presses, the foundry, the reel-stand, composting and type-setting machines, as well as the proofing, picture-blocking, and assembly rooms. ~~Signature broken at title page; few inkblots on covers and word edges.
