Hard Cover. Oblong Octavo; text shows small amount of soiling; lacking three leaves (1/2), (41/42, 43/44) Heavily illustrated throughout, with funny cartoons and captions; light soiling to first two pages; previous owner sticker to corner of front pastedown; binding protected in a hand cut mylar cover. ~~The U.S.S. Guadalcanal was an extremely successful Casablanca class escort carrier that helped sink three submarines (U-544, U-515 and U-68) as well as capture a fourth (U-505). U-505 was the first enemy warship captured by the American Navy since 1815. The Guadalcanal’s crew received the Presidential Unit Citation for their heroic effort, and Lieutenant David (who led the boarding party) received the Medal of Honor. The log’s last page commemorates the capturing of U-505.
