Rhodes” penned to the title page; the upper board has been neatly reattached with japanese tissue..~~The compiler, Francis Gilmer, died in 1826; he had been entrusted by Thomas Jefferson with recruiting faculty for The University of Virginia. Mr. Jefferson described him as “the best educated subject we have raised since the Revolution.”~ ~.
