[IMMIGRATION] THE PERIL OF HUNKEY HOLLOW
The Baptist Banner Publishing House, [1926].
Hard Cover. First Edition. 12mo.; in the publisher’s blue cloth binding, with dustjacket; 173 pages; lacking the front free endpaper (perhaps someone did not want their name associated with this book); the dustjacket has modest wear at the extremities.~~An anti-immigrant screed of the worst sort, by the pastor of First Christian Church of Brownsville, Pennsylvantia. The word “Hunkey” was a derogatory term for Hungarian and the peril is the existence of places such as “Little Italy”, “China Town” and of course “Hunkey Hollow”. The author’s closing observation in the Preface: “The new generation must be American, both at heart and in fact, if this “peril” is to be eliminated. Our slogan should be: “One Country; One Language; One Flag.”.
Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.
