Full Leather. Volumes 1 - 25 of Wendell’s Reports. The first 24 volumes are printed by Gould (a few are Second Printings) and the 25th was printed by Charles Van Benthuysen, also of Albany. This set from the law library of Alexander Hugh Holmes Stuart -- prominent Staunton lawyer who served as Interior Secretary under Millard Fillmore as well as in the Virginia Senate. He was a member of the Virginia state secession convention in 1861. His signature is on the spine of each volume, as well as on the front pastedown of each volume. Stuart died in 1891 after serving as Rector of the University of Virginia and as President of the Virginia Historical Society. He is buried in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton. Bound in full legal calf with maroon titles. Stuart’s name is on the spine of each volume, as well as the pastedown.
