With engraved portrait frontispiece of Edmond Goncourt and additional engraved plate of Jules Goncourt. With three coloured plates with captioned tissued guards, and numerous in-text illustrations. Rebound in scarlet calf over marbled boards; raised bands and gilt decorations at the spine with black morocco labels; marbled endpapers; top edge gilt. Front joint just a bit tender, but holding very well.
