[New York]: [Edward Riley] (Engraver), [1810-1812].

Two pieces for the piano forte by Pedro Weldon, who worked as a musician, teacher of music, and conductor in Jamaica and New York in the beginning of the 19th century. His works celebrate the Spanish military valor in the Peninsular War. With two engraved title pages, one for each piece, and engraved illustrations on p. 4, 6, and 12 of the first work, depicting the marshaling of troops for the Siege of Gerona, the city under siege, and supplies reaching the besieged city. The Siege of Gerona is complete for the piano forte, lacking the sheet music for the violin and bass, which contained an additional title page, same as the first, and the six pages of music. [1-3], 4-13 pp. (lacking pp. [1] 2-4, [2]). Weldon’s Favorita Waltz Brazilense is complete with a handsomely engraved title page, verso blank, and pp. 3-9 of sheet music. Engraved by Edward Riley in New York, likely published by Pedro Weldon himself, with publication info taken from Wolfe’s bibliography. Closed tears to the edges of most leaves, including a 3 cm tear to the bottom edge of the second engraved title page. Contemporary owner’s name on the title page and a blank page. Disbound. (Wolfe Secular Music in America 10167, 9731 | Inter-American Music Review Spanish Musical Resonance in the Founding Fathers’ States Part I, p. 20).
