Hard Cover. First Edition. Volume II only; Vol. I was published a year prior. A book of theology by the English chemist, minister, and philosopher, Joseph Priestley. Some years prior, he had been chased out of England by angry mobs and suspicious politicians for his continued support of the French Revolution and what it stood for, even through the height of the Terror. He settled in Philadelphia and continued to publish varied works on Christian thought. Very scattered foxing. Fully rebacked with Japanese tissue and a modern leather label. Over the publisher’s blue paper boards. Top edge trimmed, all others deckled. (Evans 32715 | DNB XVI, 364-365).
