Sorel was an American Impressionist active in the Santa Monica literary and artistic scene of the late 50’s and early 60’s, and an intimate of Christopher Wood, the socialite and author. Also a close companion of Christopher Isherwood, the English novelist and professor at Los Angeles State College, Sorel is known to have painted a portrait of Don Bachardy, and written a poem titled "For Christopher Isherwood" in 1975; Isherwood’s personal estate also contained at least one of the same hand-lettered books as these (Spider’s Web, Lyrics now located at The Huntington). Sonnets is lacking its illustrated paper dustjacket, though the chipped front cover remnant of the Poison Pills dustjacket is present. 12 and 10 numbered pages respectively. Bound in cream colored boards with white paper over the spines. Titling on the front boards, hand-lettered. OCLC notes one copy each of Sorel’s Sonnets and Poison Pills. (Christopher Isherwood Encyclopedia p. 175).
