Full Leather. Pedro Juan Perina was a Jesuit priest and professor of rhetoric. Born in Valencia in 1530, he worked in Portugal, Rome, Lyon, and Paris. This being his Eighteen Prayers, being his thoughts on various religious topics, such as the Pope and piety. As the Society of Jesus was only founded in 1540, and Perpina joined the order in 1551, this is an early reprinting of rather early religious scholarship of the Jesuit community. Some trimming to the fore edge of the index. Contemporary writing and doodling to the endpapers and some additional marginalia. Some spine wear and a small tear at the top of the front joint. Some tearing and creasing to the front endpaper, bottom edge. Tawed pigskin, elaborately blindstamped, with metal clasp hinges on the fore edges of the boards. 12o: [cross]6 A-X12 Y6 ($7 (-[cross]6, F7, G4, I5, R3, I-R7, V7, Y6) signed; missigning [cross]3 as [cross]5, F6 as F9, G2-G7 as Gii-GGvii) 264 leaves.
