Black Swan Books is TEMPORARILY closed in the aftermath of a “water event” in an adjacent building.
We expect that we will be down through March and hope to resume sending our weekly e-catalogues in April. At that time we will be open “by appointment only”. Until then our books will not be for sale. In the meantime, you can contact us by email at nick@blackswanbooks.com.

[MAP] HAND-DRAWN MAP OF FARMVILLE. TAKEN FROM GRAY’S 1878 ATLAS OF VIRGINIA. JUDITH RANDOLPH SURVEY.
A hand-drawn map of Farmville, lettered at the top “GRAYS NEW MAP OF | FARMVILLE | PRINCE EDWARD CO VA | SPECIAL SURVEYS | 1878”. A plat of the principal streets, from the Appomattox River to Appomattox Street to Grosse’s Branch. Clearly delineating the AM&O RR line. Across the plat is written “Judith Randolph Survey,” which the Prince Edward County Historical Society used to place bronze markers at the four corners of the town. Also worth mention is the dreadful scandal surrounding Mrs. Randolph, whose husband and sister were tried but narrowly acquitted for the murder of their illegitimate child.
