Half Leather. Second Edition. The second edition of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s Organon of the Healing Art, the first systematic treatise on homeopathy, first published in 1810. In an effort to push back against the harmful methods of medicine of the day, such as bloodletting, purging, and harmful chemical mixtures, Hahnemann pursued the theory that ‘Like Cures Like,’ which was marginally better than the actively harmful medical practices of the time. Portrait frontispiece. Foxing to the frontispiece and opposite pages. Closed tears to the bottom edge of pp. 11/12, 367/368. Few contemporary German marginalia in pencil and red pencil. Small loss to the top corner of the front flyleaf; contemporary nameplate pasted onto the verso of the front endpaper; bookplate on the front pastedown. Significant surface loss to the paper covered boards and leather binding, with wear to the joints and all edges of the boards. Half leather over marbled paper boards. All edges red. 574 pp.
