New York: M. Doolady, 1866.
Hard Cover. First Edition. First Edition of Charles Wells Russell’s Roebuck: A Novel. Russell served as one of Virginia’s delegates to the Provisional, First, and Second Confederate Congresses during the Civil War; his sympathies certainly lay with the South, which comes across with this novel’s frequent uses of the ‘happy slave’ and similar tropes. Contemporary owner’s name on the front flyleaf. Author’s name penciled on the title page; faint bookseller’s stamp on the title page and rear endpaper. Scattered foxing. Loss at the head and tail of the spine, and some loss along the front joint. Black textured buckram, with gilt lettering on the spine. Good.
