Oxford | London: Oxford University Press | William Clowes and Sons, [1937].

Full Leather. An early 1937 edition of the Church of England’s Book of Common Prayer, with the Forms of Prayer used at the Accession of George VI to the throne in the prior year. Most likely a rushed early reprint after the abdication of King Edward VIII, with most mentions of the King as ‘King GEORGE’ but also with at least one misprint (see p. xxxx) where “in the Second Year of the Reign of King Edward the Sixth” is not corrected. Dated 1936 in pencil on the copyright page by a contemporary owner, but also with “GIVEN at Our Court at Sandringham, the Twenty-second day of January, 1937; In the First Year of Our Reign.” on p. 627, the end of the accession service. Bound together with Hymns Ancient and Modern. With previous owner’s names and inscriptions on the front flyleaf. Wear to the front joint and edges of the boards. Full brown morocco, with gilt lettering and raised bands. All edges gilt. Very Good.

Very Good binding.
