THE DIMITY SWEETHEART: O. HENRY’S OWN LOVE STORY
Richmond: The Dietz Printing Co., 1930.
Octavo. Hard Cover. Will Porter, better known as O. Henry, eloped with Athol Estes Porter despite the reluctance of her parents. They had reason too- Porter’s father in law repeatedly bailed him out of jail and took care of his child while he was away on ‘business’. Athol was beloved but sickly; she eventually died of tuberculosis. Binding sound with some minor foxing and soiling to the covers, but a clean copy without any marks. There is a previous owner bookplate on the front pastedown. Sea-blue quarter leather over dimity cloth covered boards; paper title label on the front board.
Very Good binding / no dust jacket.
