THE LADY’S FRIEND. VOL. I., JANUARY TO DECEMBER, 1864
Philadelphia: Deacon & Peterson, [1864].
Half Leather. The first 12 issues of Mrs. Peterson’s The Lady’s Friend, bound. Issued during the Civil War. With all 12 color fashion plates present, though one has loss to the top corner affecting just the edge of the plate and another is starting to separate ate one of the folds. Another leaf (a black and white plate) has had the bottom corner torn off, affecting the plate. Finally the Frontispiece (”Gabriel Wilkie’s Return) has a 3” closed tear. An interesting contrast between the fashion plates “Les Modes Parisiennes” and the printed music throughout which reference the ongoing war time and again. Half leather, with the beginnings of separation at the top of the rear joint.
Very Good binding.
