This volume with Hints respecting the Immediate Effects of Poverty; ... the Distress of the Poor, in the Years 1794, 1705; ... respecting the society for bettering the condition, and encreasing the Comforts of the poor; respecting the Discharge and Relief of persons imprisoned for Small Debts; ... respecting Female Character, and a Repository for Female Industry; ... respecting the Prevention and Cure of Infectious Fevers and the Establishment of Houses of Recovery . All plates are present, including the numerous and appropriately Quakerish silhouettes of various medical luminaries. With Coakley’s silhouette on the title page. Also a satirical plate of a poor family with a child walking in their hovel entitled “A Morning Walk in the Metropolis”, a folding plate of “Ground Plan of the Soup-House in Orchard Street, Westminster”; a “Sketch of a Fever Hospital” and a “Sketch of an Iron Cot-bedstead”. Previous owner's bookplate attached to front paste-down. Ex-university library bookplate attached to front endpaper. One-half brown leather and marbled boards; spine lettered in gilt. Moderate edgewear to boards with heavier wear at head and tail of spine. Small loss of leather at head of spine.
