New York: [William E. Chapin], 1867.
Half Leather. Fourth Edition, Second Issue. The Fourth Edition, presumed Second Issue, of Leaves of Grass with all of the points according to Myerson. The contents page incorrectly lists Drum-Taps in addition to Leaves of Grass and “Songs Before Parting”, as called for by Myerson. Scattered markings in pencil to the text, poem on the verso of the ‘Inscription’ page, and slight dampstaining to the bottom edge of the title page and copyright page. Bound in half black leather with red, orange, blue, and white nonpareil (or combed) marbled paper covered boards. Blindstamped double rules and gold stamped titling on the spine. Loss to the top of the spine and wear along the joints, edges of the boards, and rubbing to the marbled paper. Original marbled endpapers. All edges marbled, now faded. Binding is tight, although appears quite rough. (BAL 21399 | Myerson A 2.4.a).
