DOCUMENTARY OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION [1764-1776; 1776-1784] CONSISTING OF LETTERS AND PAPERS RELATING TO THE CONTEST FOR LIBERTY, CHIEFLY IN SOUTH CAROLINA... (2 Volumes)

New York: D. Appleton & Co., 1855; 1857.

Hard Cover. Second Edition. The enlarged edition of Gibbes’s “Documentary History of the American Revolution” first published in one-volume in 1853. A medical doctor and amateur natural historian, Gibbes was nothing if not versatile. A year before the first printing of his “Documentary History” Gibbes became the owner and editor of The Daily South Carolinian. He went on to serve as Surgeon General for South Carolina. He labored to improve the medical capabilities of the Confederacy. Howes identifies this edition as scarcer than the first one-volume edition. Both volumes rebacked with new paper spine labels. There is a faint library stamp on the title page of the first volume. Edges of the boards are worn. (Howes G151).

Very Good binding.
