Volume I only. Engraved frontipiece with four vignettes of Vespasian, Titus, Josephus and Adrian. It contains “Two Discourses Upon Josephus” with an “Appendix to the two foregoing Discourses”. This is followed by the first four books of Flavius Josephus of the Jewish Antiquities: “Book I: Containing the History of 2230 Years from the Creation of the World”; “Book II. From the Year of the World 2230 to 2354” (this book contains a folding map of “The Travels of the Children of Israel Out of Aegipt”); “From the Year of the World 2454 to 2455” (this book contains a full-page plate “The Middle Table wherin is represented the High Priest in his most Sacred Robes with the Red Cow for the Burnt Sacrifice, as also another Priest with the Goat”); and “Book IV. From the Year of the World 2455 to 2493”. In an attractive 20th century binding of half polished calf over marbled boards. There is a previous owner bookplate on the front pastedown.
