Boston: Gray E Bower, 1832.
Octavo. Half Leather. First Edition. One of the Italian readers Longfellow produced when he was at Bowdoin College as a Professor of Modern Languages (readers of the thriller The Dante Club will not need to be reminded of Longfellow’s interest in Italian!). Interestingly, the penciled signature is of “H. T. Cummings, Bowdoin College, Brunswick Me;. March 1, 1841” Though Longfellow was teaching at Harvard by that time, it is not surprising the Bowdoin continued to use the illustrious man’s reader. First edition, rebound in half leather and marbled boards with the original cloth and spine with it’s paper spine label bound in. Boards have been recently reattached; hinges somewhat tight; scattered foxing/toning throughout.
