The maps have been collated against the index: there are 60 folding, or double-page maps (lacking only 1--the map of The United States), 1 single cartographic “plate” and 10 engraved portraits of American statesmen; the “plate” and the portraits are not called for in the index; backed in leather with corners and marbled paper over boards, the book has been tastefully rebacked with most of the original backstrip mounted; the maps are generally toned and foxed, a few more so than others, but are attractive nonetheless; the engraved portraits are similarly toned, a few more so than others; the general index to the Cyclopaedia is included in this volume; (Evans 9234).
